Surgery for a cyst in the radial groove

A pulley groove cyst is a synovial cyst located on the front of the wrist, near the radial artery. If it is painful, increases in size or becomes a hindrance in daily life, surgical removal may be recommended.

The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia, usually as an outpatient procedure. It involves removing the cyst and its pedicle to minimise the risk of recurrence, whilst protecting neighbouring structures, particularly the radial artery and the sensory nerve branches.

Early mobilisation of the wrist is usually encouraged. The main complications are recurrence of the cyst, tenderness at the scar site, temporary stiffness or, more rarely, vascular or nerve damage due to the proximity of the anatomical structures.
