‘Sarcophagus’ graft of an acromial bone

The ‘sarcophagus’ acromial bone graft is a reconstructive technique used to treat a symptomatic acromion. A cortical fragment is excised whilst preserving its periosteal attachment, then folded over the area to be reconstructed like a bony ‘lid’. Fixation is achieved using high-tensile sutures or anchors, ensuring excellent stability whilst preserving the graft’s blood supply. This technique promotes bone union and allows for a robust reconstruction using a local bone harvest.
