ELBOW – COMPLEX CASES
Reconstruction of the radial collateral ligament of the elbow using an allograft*
This procedure is used to treat lateral elbow instability, often following a dislocation, trauma or chronic ligament rupture.
The damaged ligament is reconstructed using a tendon allograft, i.e. a tendon from a donor that has been prepared and secured.
The graft is secured between the humerus and the ulna, in order to restore the stabilising function of the radial collateral ligament.
The aim is to stabilise the elbow, reduce pain and enable a gradual return to movement.
After the operation, the elbow is protected by a splint, and rehabilitation is then gradually commenced. Recovery takes several months, with a return to physical activity and sport depending on the stability achieved and the healing of the ligament.
