This compression can cause:
The operation is carried out via a small incision on the front of the elbow. The surgeon locates the median nerve and then cuts through the lacertus fibrosus to relieve the compression.
The surgery is most often carried out on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia.
The main aim is to restore the function of the median nerve by improving the strength, endurance and precision of hand movements. The earlier the compression is treated, the better the chances of a full recovery.
